Puckerbrush Dispatch

Welcome to the Puckerbrush Dispatch!

From puckerbrush grow mighty forests – in a nutshell (or acorn), that’s my heritage and where I’m from. Before 1855 my hometown in Iowa was called Puckerbrush. When the city was founded, Puckerbrush was changed to Forest City (I’m guessing the trees decided to take a stand and form a forest). Forest City is a small town in Iowa born from pioneers pushing west in search of a better place to live. I’ve always been a wanderer in my heart and soul, and I’ve been fortunate to explore many areas around the world.

As a photographer and writer, I’ve been plugged into the communications world for 20+ years. During that time, I’ve met many people who grow your food here in the U.S. and abroad. I’ll be sharing stories and photos of the people I’ve met along the way and the places that shape them. I’ll also invite guests to share their stories, curate fascinating links, highlight great work, and hopefully inspire you to explore and learn…

For more than two decades, Joseph L. Murphy has had the pleasure of meeting and connecting with people from all walks of life through photography. He has photographed presidents and heads of state, traversed the winding alleyways of the Fes Medina in Morocco, photographed the sprawling countryside and people that make up Argentina and covered events that have defined the U.S. Most recently, Murphy’s travels have taken him to Cambodia, Mexico, China, Vietnam and Ecuador.

He has spent the past 20 years specializing in agriculture photography for multiple organizations, publications and marketing projects.

A graduate of the University of Iowa, Murphy determined at an early age that his love of photography would shape his vision for life.
